What could be better than a great movie? Only a great icon pack based on it!

Every now and then, I invent small creative challenges for myself just for the pleasure of solving them. This one was simple: find the key visual images in some of my favorite movies and reduce each film to just three icons.

And of course you can download it, button below ↓

The goal wasn’t to illustrate the plot or draw the main characters. It was to find three visual clues that, together, could identify the movie almost instantly. A monolith, space, and a helmet. A towel, Marvin, and Don’t Panic. Milk, a rug, and a bowling ball.

It became a small exercise in visual reduction: how much can you remove before an image stops being recognizable?

Every icon was drawn by hand, with no client, brief, or commercial purpose behind it. Just movies I love, a self-imposed design challenge, and something I genuinely wanted to make.

Then the project unexpectedly took off. The Noun Project featured the set almost immediately, it made it into their newsletter and got quite a bit of attention there. And the best part: I was selected as the newsletter’s one and only Author of the Month.

I still love that sequence of events: you make something simply because the idea delights you, and suddenly your little personal exercise starts traveling much further than you ever expected.
